Maca is a natural herb that grows in the forest. The herb was first used by the Inca people to boost sex drive in men. The herb was also used in eliminating infertility problems in men and women.
Maca has also been recommended to assist in weight loss. The logic behind this argument is that the herb is a reliable source of energy.
When you don’t have enough energy, you are more likely to laze around because of fatigue. At the end of it all, you gain a lot of weight even when you don’t eat much because the food is stored as fat. The fat is only burned when you become more active.
Maca fruit is not taken in its solid form. It’s actually the root that is dried and ground to make powder that can be added into foods and drinks.
When it comes to sweetness, nothing beats red maca powder and just like its name suggests, the powder is obtained from red maca roots. Due to its popularity, red maca is made from 25 percent of all the harvest that is recorded and a year.
Since each variety of maca has different health benefits, it’s expensive to buy all the types of this herb at once. It’s therefore important to settle for premium maca powder – this is made by mixing the roots of different maca plants.
When you use this blended maca, you are assured of getting all the nutrients from just a single spoon. That means you will be getting many benefits at once.
You might be desperately looking to lose weight but that doesn’t mean that you should take maca powder irresponsibly. The reality is that everything should be done in moderation. Too much of anything tends to lead to problems.
It’s recommended that you start with one spoon per day and then increase the intake gradually with time. This will allow you to judge your body’s reaction, then increase the quantity accordingly. Remember, it doesn’t work for everyone, so there is no need to dive right into the deep end before you are sure if you will get any benefits. Always consult with a medical professional before adding something like this to your regime.
You can add maca to your tea, protein shakes, smoothies and yogurt. Don’t make the mistake of adding maca to food that’s still cooking because all the nutrients can be destroyed by the high temperatures.
Maca powder works by keeping your hormones in check and energy levels up. It’s great to take before a workout, or added to your shakes.

Arthritis can be a debilitating condition for many people. It’s becoming very common these days and there is a wide array of medications available.
However, one home remedy for arthritis that has been used is gin soaked raisins. I can’t tell you how or why it works. It’s one of those strange remedies that people have used with success but I have no idea how anyone ever figured it out. It could be the grapes or it could be the juniper berries in the gin.
In any event, if you’re experiencing arthritis pain and can’t find relief, try this gin soaked raisins recipe and see if it does anything for you.
Firstly, you want to get the ingredients right. You’ll want to use golden raisins and gin that is flavoured with juniper berries. This is what has worked best for people. (Note that sometimes golden raisins are called white raisins as well – so those are fine).
It takes about a week or two to prepare these golden raisins soaked in gin, so you’ll have to be patient. Consider preparing them before you’re experiencing any pain so that they’re ready.
Take a handful of golden raisins and put them in the bottom of a bowl. A wide shallow bowl will work best. You’ll want to make sure the whole bottom of the bowl is covered but that there is only 1 layer of raisins. So depending on the size of your bowl, it could be about 100 raisins or so.
Take your gin and pour it onto the raisins until that raisins are covered, but no more than is needed to cover them. So you’ll want them to be just barely covered.
Then you can let it sit for a while. how long it takes can vary, but usually it takes a week to 10 days for the gyn to be absorbed, but can take up to two weeks as well. But the key is to wait until the gyn is gone and absorbed/evaporated.
When it’s sitting, you can cover it with a paper towel or a dish towel. Do NOT use sedan wrap or some type of lid that would seal the bowl air tight. You want air to be able to get in. The covering is just to keep things from falling in there while you’re waiting a week.
You’ll know they’re ready because the gyn will be gone. The raisins should be plump and moist. They won’t be dried out and they’ll taste good.
For effective treatment, eat 9 of them a day. This is the number I’ve seen most places, but again, there is no clear rationale as to why.
It’s not clear why gin raisins work, but there are anecdotal stories about their effectiveness all over the internet.
One author indicates that grapes contain proanthocyanidins, which reduce inflammation. Grapes also contain resveratrol, which is what is in red wine and gives it many of its beneficial properties.
But I can’t point you to any studies that support it, so this is definitely one of those remedies you’ll have to go on faith a bit. It seems to have gained popularity because of radio host Paul Harvey, but it’s also a bit unclear where it started (as with all remedies of this nature).

Peppermint oil has been used as a natural remedy for centuries. But it’s not as straightforward as just getting some leaves and rubbing them on your head. It’s actually very strong and can irritate some people’s scalp, so you’ve got to be careful about how much you use.
Overall, if you’ve got issues with your hair, it is definitely worth trying peppermint oil for hair growth. Though to be clear, it won’t work for everyone and there are a lot of different tips out there for how to use it. It’s worth trying some different approaches and seeing what works for you.
Peppermint oil is found on the undersides of the leaves of a perennial herb (Mentha Piperita L. and M. arvensis var . piperascensa), native to Europe. It’s a colorless, pale greenish-yellow or pale yellow liquid. It has a characteristic odor and taste.
The oil is extracted from the leaves by steam distillation. This oil is used as an analgesic, antiseptic, anesthetic, decongestant, carminative, expectorant and astringent.
The principal ingredient of peppermint oil responsible for its beneficial effects is menthol. According to various sources, peppermint has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antimicrobial activities. These activities help to eliminate dandruff and lice from hair and improve frizzy hair.
Advocates for peppermint oil argue that it promotes rapid hair growth, increases hair follicle number and follicle depth and strengthens hair roots. As a result, many high quality hair care products use peppermint oil as the active ingredient to prevent hair loss. It naturally thickens and nourishes damaged hair making it darker and firm.
Preparation/Making the oil:
There are various ways to prepare your own peppermint oil. Or you can just buy it already made. But if you want to start from the ground up, here’s a method we recommend. First, here’s what you need:
Next, in terms of the procedure you’ll want to start by cleaning the peppermint leaves. Then chop and crush them so that they release their natural oil. Put them into the glass jar and add your carrier oil. The carrier oil should cover the peppermint leaves completely. Seal the jar with a tight lid and leave it for 24 hours.
After the 24 hours are over, strain the oil, add more crushed peppermint leaves and carrier or olive oil and seal the jar tightly. Keep on adding crushed leaves and more oil into the jar for five days. Remove the leaves by straining and pour the oil into the storage bottle. Store in a cool place away from sunlight.
Here’s a video setting out some tips on how to prepare peppermint oil:
This article also has some more tips for preparing the oil.
Application on scalp:
Peppermint oil can be used to cleanse the skin and the scalp. The inflammatory and antiseptic properties of the oil soothes your itchy scalp. It absorbs excess oils on the scalp and helps to moisturize it when dry. You will just follow a simple procedure as outlined below:
Peppermint oil increases dermal thickness. It causes the rejuvenation and revitalization of skin on your scalp by increasing blood circulation and blood supply to skin cells. This is a spa-like treatment for your scalp using a natural product.
To minimize chances of side effects such as rashes and headaches, make sure you mix your oils well during preparation of your own peppermint oil. Also mix the oil properly with water before applying on your scalp. Diluting it with the water is really important.

Dandruff can often be an extreme inconvenience, if not a total embarrassment. We’ve all had that fear of having to go on a date and having white flakes falling off your scalp onto your plate, or going to a job interview with dandruff on the shoulders of your suit.
Or imagine having to study for an important exam while your head is so itchy!
Indeed, dandruff can have negative effects on your life in terms of confidence and your ability to function normally. While there are many over-the-counter solutions out there, natural remedies are always a better option because first and foremost, they’re cheaper. Second, the risk for side effects are typically lower.
One of the most recommended and effective ways to combat this issue is to use apple cider vinegar for dandruff. Simply apply an amount on your scalp and in a few days or weeks’ time, you’ll begin to see your dandruff problem slowly disappearing.
Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from cider. It can also be made from apple must. It is commonly used in marinades and as a salad dressing, as well as for food preservation.
It’s an effective dandruff remedy due to the powerful enzymes that are present in the acid of the vinegar that helps kill bacteria and fungus.
Contrary to popular belief that dandruff is caused by over-shampooing and other lifestyle reasons, dandruff is actually an overproduction of yeast on the scalp. Dead skin cells on the surface of the skin accumulate with more bacteria, leading to the cells flaking off and causing itchiness.
Dandruff also makes your hair lifeless and dull. So aside from unsightly white flakes that pepper your hair, they also make your locks look awful.
Apple Cider Vinegar is an anti-inflammatory and an anti-bacterial aid, which targets the cause of dandruff – the yeast and bacteria.
Here are a few things you should know before using apple cider vinegar for dandruff:
Follow these steps for best results.
Again, the vinegar’s odor is strong so if you can’t afford to smell like acid for the rest of the day, then mix it with water.
Another alternative would be to use a cotton ball, dip it in apple cider vinegar, and apply it only to the areas of your hair with the most amount of dandruff.
Apply the treatment once a week or twice a week for those who have severe dandruff problems. If symptoms persist or if your dandruff leads to open sores that bleed, it’s best you consult a doctor. If you’re looking for a particular type of vinegar, I’ve always used Bragg Organic brand, but I’m sure other ones would be suitable.

Keratosis Pilaris, popularly abbreviated as KP, is a common follicular condition that is believed to be genetically predetermined. While it affects both men and women, it is more prevalent in women. The condition is characterized by uneven little bumps and lumps on the upper part of the arms, thighs, legs, and buttocks as well as the cheeks. It is often confused with ingrown hairs.
Treating Keratosis Pilaris can be relatively expensive depending on the method of treatment sought. However, there are ways of dealing with it that can be less expensive. Coconut oil is loaded with properties that give it the ability to reduce the intensity of Keratosis Pilaris and to treat the condition.
Results with coconut oil for keratosis pilaris are always mixed, so it’s important not to get your hopes up too much. The evidence is mostly anecdotal and it’s difficult to find scientific studies on the issue. That being said, you can certainly find plenty of people that personally claim that it helped them.
The Lauric acid properties in coconut oil happen to be the primary reason the oil is able to obstruct the hair follicles, thereby preventing the development of little uneven bulges. In addition, the oil boasts a wealth of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that combine to reduce the effects brought by Keratosis Pilaris.
In order to give yourself the best chance of treating KP with coconut oil, you have to embark on the correct coconut oil treatment regimen as outlined below:
Exfoliate Using a Coconut Oil Scrub – Keratosis Pilaris primarily occurs because the hair follicles are not shedding, thus you need to get rid of this dead skin build up. Exfoliation ensures that the skin is clean and ready for treatment.
Mix the oil with sugar and use natural loofah to lather up the oil before cleaning the skin. A coconut oil scrub is excellent at exfoliating the skin because sugar contains natural glycolic acid that is good for KP.
Moisturize – After you have taken a shower, apply a small amount of coconut oil to your damp skin and rub it in using circular motions. Applying the oil on damp skin ensures maximum absorption.
Coconut oil has high fatty acids content that are easily absorbed by the skin to moisture it. In addition, the oil soothes the inflammation brought about by the lumps and bumps.
Apply a small amount of the oil because no matter how much you apply, the effects will still be the same. Repeat the above treatment plant at least three times every week and tangible results should be seen in a couple of weeks.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals – Keep off soap and lotions that are formulated using mineral oil, artificial fragrance, parabens, petroleum, and dimethicone. Be sure to check the ingredients on the coconut oil bottle before buying as well. Such products can interfere with the treatment plan and delay results.
Check Your Diet – Keep off trans fats that are commonly found in margarine and hydrogenated oil. Also, avoid gluten, wheat or dairy products if you are allergic to them because such foods can aggravate Keratosis Pilaris. Eat food with low glycemic index for improvement of KP.
Consider taking Supplements – Omega 3 or fish oil supplements are known to improve KP and you should take them on a regular basis. You may also consider supplementing unrefined coconut oil with virgin coconut oil by ingesting 1 to 3 tablespoons on a daily basis.
Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub – Mix one part of brown sugar with one part of white granulated sugar. Add two parts of extra virgin coconut oil to the sugar. You may add one tablespoon of honey to bring in the moisturizing properties into the mixture. Stir until the ingredients are evenly mixed.
Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter – Use a mixer or food processor to whip coconut oil into fluffy body butter. You may add shea or cocoa butter, liquid vitamin E and a few drops of essential oil into the mixer or processor before whipping.
Apple Cider Vinegar and Coconut Oil – Mix one part of coconut oil with one part of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of honey. Blend the ingredients to make a thick paste.
Keratosis Pilaris can be stressful, to say the least. However, you can get rid of the condition using coconut oil as highlighted above. The beauty of it is that coconut oil is readily available in almost every other beauty products outlet at relatively affordable prices. In addition, coconut oil bath recipes are easy to prepare at home.

We all know that dark knees can be very embarrassing. It can be enough to make people nervous about doing basic things like swimming or sporting activities that require them to expose their knees. Dark knees are extremely common in people with very dry skin.
But you don’t have to feel embarrassed or ashamed of your knees. There are plenty of natural ways that you can get rid of dark knees. In fact, this article will show you 5 ways to get rid of dark knees naturally and easily. These remedies will help you to enjoy wearing whatever you like and not bothering about your knees.
The reason we give you 5 different remedies is because not every remedy works for everyone. You’ve got to try out a few different things and see what works. But by trying multiple different approaches, you should be able to tackle it just fine.
Quite often the cause of dark knees is dead skin cells that build up on the knees. This is especially common if you do a lot of kneeling down on the floor. To remove these dead skin cells you can make a scrub using only natural ingredients. Simply mix together some baking soda with a small amount of water to make a paste.
Apply the paste to your knees and leave for around 5 minutes to soak in. After this time rub vigorously.
The baking soda will gently remove the dead skin cells without causing any pain. After scrubbing, rinse the paste off your knees in the shower. This should be repeated for a few weeks until your dark knees start to reduce. But if you’re wondering how to get rid of dark knees overnight, this is the fastest of the 5 approaches set out here. And it’s as simple as reaching for the trusty old Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties. Although this is much gentler than conventional bleach you might use in the toilet, it will lighten your skin gradually over time. To use lemon juice, cut a lemon in half and keep it in the fridge cut side down to prevent it from drying out. Wash your knees with plain water in the shower.
If you have any cuts or grazes on your knees then you might like to avoid using lemon juice as it can sting. After leaving the lemon juice to dry you will need to rinse it off thoroughly because it will generally be quite sticky (you’ll also smell a bit like lemons).
This one is more of a preventative matter than a treatment. But many people apply sunscreen to their body when they go out, but most will neglect the knees. Make sure that you apply plenty of sunscreen to the knees to protect them from harmful UV rays when you go out.
If the problem is caused by sun exposure then applying plenty of sunscreen each and every time you go out should be enough to reduce the darkness of the knees. This may take months before you will notice any change, but it’s worth being patient. Remember to apply sunscreen whenever you wear short skirts or anything that exposes your knees.
Make sure that the sunscreen you choose has a high UV protection to ensure your knees have plenty of protection. 50 SPF will normally be the best to block almost all of the suns UV rays.
This tip isn’t exactly fast, but if you’re to find out how to get rid of black knees over the medium/long-term, this is a useful approach.
The knees can dry out quite quickly if neglected, this is even worse if your skin is naturally dry. You might lovingly smother your legs in moisturizing lotion, but you might leave out your knees.
Be sure to apply lots of moisturizing creams and lotions to your knees. Over time, and when used in combination with exfoliating treatments, it should reduce dark skin on and around the knees.
This is one of my favourite approaches for how to lighten dark knees. Almonds have natural bleaching and lightening properties. Each night before bed clean your knees by carefully washing them. Then dry them and apply a liberal amount of almond oil. Almond oil is relatively inexpensive and is quite easy to find these days.
Leave the almond oil to soak into the skin for a few minutes and then massage it in. There’s no need to rinse the oil off, simply leave it to soak into the skin. Within a couple of weeks you should start to notice an improvement in the dark knees you are suffering from.
These completely natural remedies for dark knees will help you to recover from the very embarrassing and distressing condition. As all of the 5 remedies we’ve looked at use natural ingredients, they shouldn’t cause any harm or damage to the skin. Whichever remedy you choose, just remember to continue it for several weeks so you can get the benefits you desire.
